Aloe Vera Group makes strict demands on how its products are made – from the harvest in the fields in Mexico until the finished bottles and tubes find their way to consumers' homes. The Aloe Vera Group imports Aloe Vera leaf gel from one of the world's largest producers of Aloe Vera, Aloecorp in Denver, USA. Aloecorp's huge production of Aloe Vera is grown on farms which do not use pesticides or chemicals. Aloecorp products are standardised so the company guarantees that its Aloe Vera is a consistently high-quality product. Aloecorp produces Aloe Vera leaf gel using very advanced techniques which ensure that the beneficial properties in the gel are preserved. Aloecorp maintains close contact with US-based research institutes, which engage in research into the benefits of Aloe Vera and Aloecorp is therefore able to notify us of the results of recent research.
Aloecorp is the only raw material supplier to produce two qualities of Aloe Vera. Both qualities are IASC approved. ACTIValoe® is standardised to contain no less than 10 % polysaccharides (by dry weight) where most have a molecular weight of 50-200 k Dalton. AVIVIR uses 1. sorting.
*Polysaccharides, e.g. glucomannan and acemannan, are now considered to be the primary active substances in Aloe Vera. (IASC requires a total content of only 5 % polysaccharides.)
After it has been harvested by hand, the Aloe Vera leaf gel has to be produced and sealed in barrels within 6 hours. Production must take place under conditions of hygiene similar to those at a dairy.
In the first phase of Aloe Vera leaf gel production, the leaves are washed. The leaf gel is then pressed, micro filtered and pasteurised at high temperature to immobilise an enzyme (which would otherwise destroy the important polysaccharides) and to kill any micro-organisms in the gel. Micro-organisms in the gel have to be eliminated as soon as possible to preserve the beneficial properties and then to avoid product contamination. To avoid contamination, preservatives are added after pasteurisation.
Subsequent processing of the raw material to produce the finished product takes place in Denmark. Our products are produced under strictly controlled conditions. We analyse the raw materials and all finished products at recognised laboratories in Denmark. We also conduct ongoing tests to check shelf life, so that we can document at any time that our products have a shelf life of at least 36 months.
The only additives in our Aloe Vera Drink are sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate (preservatives) and citric acid (pH regulating additive). We use no thickeners (such as xanthan) and no artificial flavours or sweeteners (such as sorbitol). We have submitted samples to UNIGEN Pharmaceuticals Inc. for analysis. The results document that the high quality and active substances of the raw material are preserved in the finished drink.
Our skincare products contain a higher concentration and better quality of Aloe Vera than most competitor products. The concentration of organic Aloe Vera is stated (as a percentage) on the packaging (50-99.5 %). Furthermore, we believe that the remaining ingredients in our products must also be of high quality. For example, we do NOT use: perfume, petrolatum, methyldibromo glutaronitrile phenoxyethanol, parabens or triclosan.
We keep abreast of new know-how within our industry and we strive consistently to optimise our products and recipes. A list of all the ingredients we use in our products with thorough explanations is available on our website www.aloevera.dk. We believe in perspicacity – and this includes letting the consumer know exactly what ingredients our products contain.
Thanks to a high concentration of pure Aloe Vera ACTIValoe®, our products are powerful, effective and can be trusted to produce results. Our products repair, nourish, moisturise and protect the skin. They also repair and prevent premature ageing. Aloe Vera is also valuable as an agent to soothe and cool, e.g. sunburned skin.
The Nordic Ecolabel is an eco-label which indicates that the product is a product which has a low environmental impact and complies with a range of health requirements. The Nordic Ecolabel also guarantees that the product contains none of the products listed on the EU list of hormone-disrupting chemicals, and no preservatives or perfumes which can cause allergies.
The International Aloe Science Council (IASC) is a global organisation which is working to provide better Aloe Vera, documentation and ethical practices. If a company's products comply with a battery of designated criteria, the IASC seal can be used by agreement with IASC.
In the Aloe Vera Group's case, approval was achieved when we stated the percentage content of ACTIValoe®. According to the IASC certification rules, if no percentage figure is stated, there must be at least 15 % Aloe Vera in the product.
For reasons relating to safety, shelf life and environmental impact, we have selected packaging made in three types of plastic: PET, PE and PE.
We use bottles made of PET for AVIVIR Drikke Aloe Vera. PET has a strong, impenetrable barrier which protects the product extremely well from oxygen, water and odours. It is important that products containing a high concentration of Aloe Vera are stored in strong, protective packaging, which can ensure that oxygen cannot penetrate and damage the products.
All other bottles are made in PE. PE is impermeable to water, odours and most solvents. Our tubes are also made of PE.
PET, PE and PP do not contain Bisphenol A or phthalates, which are thought to be hormone-disrupting substances.
When PET and PE are heated, they melt and become malleable, like candle wax. Then, when these plastics are cooled, they harden. These characteristics are exploited in packaging production, where the material is heated, moulded and then cooled. This means that PET and PE are suitable for melting and recycling. In some countries including Denmark, PET is collected and recycled.
PET and PE are produced from natural gas, which is burned off as excess energy and enters the natural cycle. During incineration, PET and PE produce CO2, water and a small volume of ash. These plastics are, therefore, the eco-friendly choice.
From time to time stores and customers ask why we do not use glass in our packaging. We don't use glass – and for very good reasons. As a relatively heavy material, large volumes of CO2 are emitted when glass is transported. Glass also impacts the environment when it is melted to create recycled glass. We have also made a conscious choice not to use metal caps and tubes as these often end up in household waste, and we know that this is incinerated and metal residues (dross) are imperishable and have to be stored as waste forever.
